knitted plastic bag holder.
You know those plastic grocery bags we all have laying around?
ya well i got tired of them cluttering up the cabinet under my sink, so i went online to find a pattern to make something i could put them all in, i found a few patterns but they weren't big enough, the one that i found that i really liked they person wanted $10.00 for the pattern, i'm cheap so i wasn't going to pay for a pattern. So i finally decided to try and make my own. here's what i came up with.
While it's not perfect, it does the job. it's pretty plain, but i'm quit proud of myself for making it without a pattern. I worked this flat on straight needles and then sewed the edges together to make it round. i might make another one in the future and add a design or possibly some cables just to give it some character.
here's my pattern for those that would like to make one... or three :D haha.
Cast on 40 stitches. (I used an U.S. size 9 needles)
worked about 35 rows of 2 X 2 ribbing, and then switched to stockinette stitch, i worked about two rows and then i increased 5 stitches and worked another 2 rows and increased another 5 stitches so i had a total of 50 stitches, i just used a simple knit one in front and back loop and just evenly spaced it through out the row. and then i just worked in stockinette stitch till i was happy with the length, and then i bound off.
i then made a simple 3 stitch i-cord and wrapped it around the top for a bow. i attached a simple hook to the inside of the cabinet door and used the i-cord to hold the bag holder in place.
the holder measures about 20ish inches, i say 20ish because mine was stuffed with bags when i measured it, i know i should have done it before, but hey this isn't perfect nor precise, you can make yours however long or short you wish. the i-cord measured at about 45 inches, i made it longer just cause i wanted a big bow.
if you attempt to make one using my "pattern" post the pictures i would love to see what you all come up with, also if you have any questions or if i didn't make the instructions very clear please ask me. i will answer your questions and hopefully clear up any confusions you have if any!! any ways i hope you like my creation and cant wait to see what you make!!
